Transpose chords and adjust reader settings

Reader settings are personal. They change how you see a song without changing the stored song or another member's view.

Open performance settings

Open a song and select Performance settings in the reader toolbar.

Transpose the song

Use the minus and plus controls beside Transpose to move the displayed chords down or up by semitones. Lyrics remain unchanged.

Set a capo position

Use the controls beside Capo to choose a fret. BetterSongbook adjusts the displayed chord shapes while preserving the intended sounding key.

The status bar summarizes the active transpose, capo, and displayed-chord shift.

Choose chord spelling

Under Chord spelling, choose:

  • Auto to let BetterSongbook choose;
  • Sharps to prefer names such as C#; or
  • Flats to prefer names such as Db.

Use dark stage mode

Turn on Dark stage mode for a high-contrast dark reader suited to dim performance spaces.

Change navigation and zoom

Select Scroll or Pages in the reader toolbar. Each mode remembers its own position and zoom level, so you can switch without losing your place.
